Known as “Bicycle Day,” each year the psychedelic community praises the founder of the holiday, Albert Hoffman, for his brave accomplishment back in 1943.
What Is Bicycle Day?
Bicycle Day marks the first recorded LSD “trip” by Albert Hofmann on April 19, 1943.
After unknowingly ingesting 0.25mg of LSD, Hoffman began experiencing sudden changes in his visual perception.
After asking his lab assistant to escort him home, the two journeyed by bicycle back to Hoffman’s home while the effects of LSD took hold.
Hoffman was quoted on saying this about the experience,
Little by little I could begin to enjoy the unprecedented colors and plays of shapes that persisted behind my closed eyes. Kaleidoscopic, fantastic images surged in on me, alternating, variegated, opening and then closing themselves in circles and spirals, exploding in colored fountains, rearranging and hybridizing themselves in constant flux …
After the experience, Hoffman realized he had made a huge discovery.
He began seeing LSD as a transformative psychedelic drug that helped positively shift consciousness.
Due to this, Bicycle Day is praised in the psychedelic community as a day to celebrate the discovery of LSD.
Who Is Albert Hoffman?
Albert Hoffman was a Swiss scientist who is best known for his discovery of LSD.
In 1938, Hoffman was working on a new compound for the pharmaceutical company Sandoz when he accidentally ingested some of the substance.
The experience was so profound that he continued to work with LSD, eventually synthesizing it in its pure form.
He went on to conduct extensive research on the effects of LSD, and published numerous papers on the topic.
In addition to his scientific work, Hoffman also had a strong interest in spirituality, and he believed that LSD could be used as a tool for self-exploration and personal growth.
Today, LSD is widely known as a powerful psychedelic drug, and Hoffman’s legacy continues to be felt in the fields of science and spirituality.
